Dublin ranks 21st out of 30 European cities in a report launched today by Siemens which measures the current environmental performance of Europe's major cities across 30 indicators.
Ireland rates well in the air quality category, where it ranks fourth overall but with poor showings in other categories including transport (30th), buildings (24th) and carbon dioxide emissions (19th) pull down its average. Nordic cities dominate the top tier of the index. Copenhagen leads the index overall, coming marginally ahead of Stockhholm, while in third place Oslo rounds out a trio Scandinaivian cities at the top of the table. read more

Siemens is pleased to announce the appointment of Grania Crawford as Healthcare Sales Account Manager for Northern Ireland. Previously Grania worked as a CT (computed tomography) product specialist for over four years in Siemens in England.
After obtaining a BSc honours in diagnostic radiography from Canterbury Christ Church University, Grania began her career in radiography at Guy's and St. Thomas' Trust Hospitals in London, where she worked in general interventional, A&E and CT. She then took up an agency position, which gave her the opportunity to broaden her experience and work in a wide range of hospitals around England, before joining Siemens.read more
Winners Of Siemens Innovative Young Engineer Award Announced
The supply of qualified and skilled science and technology graduates will be integral to Ireland fulfilling its potential as a knowledge economy fuelled by innovation, according to Siemens. Speaking at the announcement of the Siemens Innovative Young Engineer Award, Michael O’Connor, Marketing Manager of Siemens Limited said “A higher level of engagement of science and technology subjects at primary and secondary school level is now critical in helping to increase the level of graduates in the area.”read more
Germany is Ireland’s leading continental European partner and with more than 235* Germany−based companies in Ireland employing approx 15,000 people**, the importance for Irish secondary school students to develop German language skills has never been more apparent.
Keenly aware of Ireland’s need to develop foreign language skills, the German Teachers’ Association of Ireland in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut in Dublin, organised “The All Ireland German Debating Competition,” sponsored by Siemens, the final of which took place in the Goethe−Institut, 37 Merrion Square, on Thursday May 14th.read more
Siemens Limited is pleased to announce that Mr. Aiden Cawley has been appointed business manager of transmission and distribution products for Siemens’ Energy Sector. In his new role, Aiden will assume responsibility for the T&D business in Ireland, which reflects the growing market for T&D products and solutions.
Since 2005 Aiden has been sales manager for T&D products. Prior to that, he spent eight years working on international power related projects for Siemens worldwide as an electrical engineer. Aiden is an accomplished project engineer in the power industry and holds an electronics engineering degree from the University of Limerick.read more
Siemens Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Dand as National Sales Manager for Siemens’ Healthcare sector. Kevin was the Director of Global Marketing − Interventional Radiology for Siemens AG, based in Germany since 2005. Prior to that, he spent 15 years working for Siemens in engineering, sales & business management roles.
Kevin is an electronic engineer and has an MBA from Henley Management College, UK.read more
Siemens Launches Most Comprehensive Report on Dublin’s CO2 Emissions, Abatement Solutions & International Comparisons
Dr. Werner Kruckow, CEO, Siemens Limited and Professor Gerry Byrne, School of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, UCD today launched the most comprehensive report to date for the Capital, identifying the existing challenges that Dublin faces in terms of C02 emissions and identifying international comparisons and available solutions.
Entitled ‘Siemens Sustainable Urban Infrastructure Report: Dublin − a view to 2025’, the central finding of the report is that technologies which are available today can help Dublin reach its emissions targets, save the Exchequer money and help create significant jobs. Ireland is already exceeding its Kyoto target and will likely miss its EU 20−20−20 target which will cost the country in the form of carbon credits. read more
Robotic rugby players, designed by UCD Engineering students, were in training today, (Thursday 16th April), for the Siemens RoboRugby Competition final which takes place on Monday evening, 20th April, at UCD, Belfield Campus.
The Siemens RoboRugby design exercise for first-year Engineering and Computer Science students at UCD, provides a platform to illustrate their innovation and creative thinking in an engaging and enjoyable context. The Robots are made from thousands of individual pieces and the students are challenged to programme the robots to play a competitive game of rugbyread more
Siemens Limited, one of the world’s leading engineering companies, hosted a ‘Discovery Box’ Workshop of science experiments today (Tuesday, 10th February) with up to thirty, 8−10yr olds from Our Lady of Victory, Boys National School, Ballymun to illustrate how engaging children in the practice of science and technology and showing them its applications can capture their imagination and generate life−long interest and careers in the subject.
The Siemens Discovery Box consists of two large wooden boxes packed with tools and information on the topics of Energy & Electricity and Environment & Health. It includes a number of simple experiments.read more
